Brazil ended their 12-year wait for a Copa America title by beating Peru 3-1 to win the tournament on home soil in Rio de Janeiro.

Gremio striker Everton Soares opened the scoring for the hosts after only fifteen minutes. Liverpool star Roberto Firmino came close to doubling the scoring through a header from the inside of the box.

Peru's forward Paolo Guerrero equalized after he converted from the penalty spot in the 44th minute.

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus put his side ahead again after only one minute through a right-foot shot from inside of Peru's penalty area.

Everton forward Richarlison secured the victory for the hosts after he converted from the penalty spot in the 90th minute of the game.

It is worth mentioning that Brazil qualified for the final after knocking out their old rivals Argentina with a 2-0 win, while Peru stunned holders Chile 3-0 to reach their first final since 1975
