Neymar was Neymar as always, playing well, scoring a goal to put Brazil into the World Cup quarterfinals, and getting closer to Pelé's all-time record.

Neymar made his comeback from injury on Monday, and he scored a first-half penalty as Brazil defeated South Korea 4-1 to go to the round of 16. With the national team, he scored 76 goals, one fewer than Pelé, who declared he would watch the game from his bed in a Sao Paulo hospital.

Neymar admitted, "I was really afraid. "After suffering an injury like I did, it was quite difficult. The entire night, I cried. My family is aware of what I've been through. But in the end it all worked out. It was worth the effort to keep undergoing physiotherapy."

Fans in Brazil and Qatar are concerned about the health of the 82-year-old Pelé as he recovers from a lung infection that COVID-19 made worse. After the game, Neymar held a banner with the image of the legendary soccer player and the word "Pelé" printed on it, and the entire team posed behind it near midfield.

Neymar stated, "It's hard to talk about Pelé with what he is going through. "We hope he recovers quickly. We hope that by bringing the victory and the banner to him, we helped him feel a little more at ease."

For the first time since its legendary run to the semifinals as a co-host in 2002, South Korea was attempting to make it past the round of 16.

In the team's opening game against Serbia, Neymar injured ligaments in his right ankle, raising questions about whether he would return to the World Cup lineup. He led Brazil to a convincing victory and a spot in the World Cup quarterfinals for the eighth consecutive tournament, and there were no signs of the injury.
