Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz decided to represent Morocco instead of Spain.

Diaz represented Spain only once, scoring during a 4-0 friendly win over Lithuania in 2021.

The switch isn't official yet as some formalities are still to be completed, including the Moroccan football governing body's submission of a request to FIFA for Diaz’s change of nationality.

Diaz was born in Malaga but he is eligible to represent Morocco through his father.

Morocco spent five years to convince Diaz to play for them. The Moroccan FA president, Fouzi Lekjaa, and politicians from the country visited Diaz, in addition to the coach of the team to convince the 24-year-old player to play for Morocco.

The Spanish Football Association expressed that it wasn't informed of the player's decision to represent Morocco.
