Moroccan referee Bouchra Karboubi became the first Arab and the second African female referee to officiate an AFCON game. She officiated the game between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau in the final round of the group stage of the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
On Thursday, Karboubi had an interview with the official website of CAF about her experience.
She said: "Refereeing this match was an honor for me. During the last AFCON, I was the first woman to do VAR, I was in the final and on this AFCON, I am a central referee. It was a pride for me to represent African women and to represent refereeing in Africa."
About her reaction after knowing that she was designated for the game, she expressed: "It was a pride for me to represent African women in general."
