Following the implementation of a truce, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for a "durable solution" between Israel and Palestine.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Egypt, began early on Friday, putting a stop to the worst hostilities in years.

232 Palestinians were murdered in Israeli air raids on Gaza, which also destroyed thousands of houses and crucial infrastructure. In Israel, Gaza rocket attacks killed 12 people and injured hundreds more.

New steps are needed, according to Johnson, to "stop the cycle of violence." On Twitter, he stated, "I applaud news of a truce in Israel and Gaza."

“Leaders in the region must now work to find a durable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that prevents terrorism, ends the cycle of violence and delivers a sustainable and just peace.”
