Police in Trinidad and Tobago have launched a major investigation after discovering the bodies of 50 infants and six adults in a cemetery, in a case described as deeply alarming.
Authorities said the remains were found in the town of Cumuto, around 40 kilometers from the capital Port of Spain. Initial findings suggest the case may involve the illegal disposal of unidentified bodies.

According to police, the adult victims include four men and two women. Identification documents were found with some of the bodies, while two showed signs of having undergone autopsies.
Allister Guevarro described the discovery as extremely disturbing, stressing that the investigation is being treated with the utmost seriousness. He said all bodies must be handled with dignity and in accordance with the law, warning that any violations would result in full accountability.
Forensic teams are conducting further analysis to determine the origin of the remains and whether any legal breaches occurred.

The case has intensified concerns over crime and governance in Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean nation of around 1.5 million people located near Venezuela. Despite a reported drop in crime rates last year, authorities declared a state of emergency in March following a renewed surge in violence.
The shocking discovery is expected to trigger wider scrutiny of institutional oversight and public health systems, as investigators work to uncover the full circumstances behind the case.
