US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken intends to visit Israel and Jordan on a tour that will continue until Wednesday, according to what the US State Department announced, following a call between President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during which they discussed negotiations to release hostages held by Hamas.
A State Department official confirmed Blinken's trip, as his plane landed in Ireland on Sunday to refuel while he was on his way to Saudi Arabia for a scheduled visit.
The tour was announced after a telephone call between President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which dealt with the ongoing negotiations to stop a possible Israeli attack on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza in exchange for the release of the hostages.
