US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Thursday that reaching an agreement regarding the release of hostages held by the Hamas movement is still possible, but there are “very difficult” issues that must be resolved.

Talks in which the United States, Egypt, Israel and Qatar participated regarding an agreement aimed at reaching a truce in the four-month-old Gaza war ended without achieving a breakthrough on Tuesday.

In response to a question about whether it is possible to reach an agreement to establish a truce before the start of the month of Ramadan on approximately next March 10, Blinken said that the previous response of the Hamas movement to a possible agreement, included some “clearly unimplementable matters,” but it pointed out to the possibility of working to reach an agreement.

Blinken added in a press conference during a visit to Albania: “We are now working with our counterparts from Qatar, Egypt and Israel on the matter, and we are working very intensively on it with the aim of trying to reach an agreement, and I believe that this is possible.”

He continued: "There are some very difficult issues that must be resolved... but we are committed to doing everything in our power to move forward and explore whether we can reach an agreement."

Blinken arrived in Albania on Thursday, and in his first visit, he praised the “exceptional partnership” between Washington and Tirana, showing support for the allied country located in the Balkan region.
