Smollett portrayed a burlesque singer who rescues Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie) from an attempted abduction and later becomes the driver for crime lord Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor).

She eventually betrays Roman and reveals her metahuman ability of supersonic-level screaming.

"Lovecraft Country" creator Misha Green is set to script the movie, which will be produced by Sue Kroll via her Kroll & Co. Entertainment banner, which had also produced "Birds of Prey".

The project is a spinoff from "Birds of Prey" which also featured characters, the Huntress, and Cassandra Cain.

HBO Max is also developing several DC superhero movies, including "Batgirl" starring Leslie Grace, and "Blue Beetle", starring Xolo Maridueña.

The streaming service is also developing a "Black Superman" series with producer Michael B. Jordan.
