Microsoft founder Bill Gates warned that the Coronavirus pandemic is not over yet, and there could still be another variant that is more fatal and widespread.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Gates said that he did not want to sound “doom and gloom, but it is way above a 5 percent risk that this pandemic, we haven’t even seen the worst of it.”
“We’re still at risk of this pandemic generating a variant that would be even more transmissive and even more fatal,” he said, adding that long-term vaccinations that prevent infection, are urgently needed.
The billionaire called for making a team of international experts, ranging from epidemiologists to computer designers, to identify threats and improve international coordination, in addition to forming a global response team to epidemics, run by the World Health Organization, stressing the additional investment in this area is “vital.”
“It seems wild to me that we could fail to look at this tragedy and not, on behalf of the citizens of the world, make these investments,” he added.
