US Presidents Joe Biden and his South Korean counterpart Yoon Seok-yeol have agreed Saturday to start discussions on expanding the scope and scale of joint military exercises between the two countries, amid growing North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.

The two leaders reached the agreement during their first summit, which was held in Seoul.

The two sides issued a joint statement on the summit, saying that "the two leaders agreed to start discussions to expand the scope and scale of joint military exercises and training on and around the Korean Peninsula."

Military exercises between the two allies have been curtailed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and as part of efforts to engage North Korea under the administrations of former presidents Moon Jae-in of South Korea and Donald Trump of the United States.
