On Friday, US President Joe Biden said that he expects an Iranian attack on Israel "Sooner than later."
Biden told reporters at the White House: “I don’t want to get into secure information but my expectation is sooner than later." His remarks came after receiving a question about the possibility of an Iranian attack on Israel.
He was also asked if American troops were at risk, responding: “We are devoted to the defense of Israel. We will support Israel we will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed."
The US is on high alert for a significant Iranian attack on Israel in recent days, especially after the latest regional escalations in the Middle East, including the Israeli attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria.
Biden, who warned this week that Iran was threatening a “significant attack” on Israel, received constant updates on the situation from his national security team.
The Defense Department is moving additional assets to the Middle East region “to bolster regional deterrence efforts and increase force protection for US forces,” CNN cited a US defense official.
In addition, the Pentagon is working to bolster air defenses for the US troops in Iraq and Syria.
