US President Joe Biden said that over the past few days, the country has again suffered a wave of tragic shootings in Philadelphia, Fort Worth, Baltimore, Lansing, Wichita, and Chicago, in which many people were killed.

Over the past year, Biden added, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Routing, legislative leaders, and many gun violence advocates and survivors have fought tirelessly to turn the pain of Highland Park and other gun violence into meaningful action on behalf of all Illinoisans.

And the US President continued: Last January; those people succeeded in banning assault weapons as well as high-capacity ammunition clips throughout Illinois, an achievement that will save lives but will not erase the grief for the victims of gun violence.

The US president urged other states to follow Illinois' example, saying, "I continue to call on Republican lawmakers in Congress to sit at the negotiating table on sensible and meaningful reforms that the American people support."
