Egypt witnessed the exclusive premiere of “STARBOUND (The Road to the Stars)”, a joint scientific television program produced by RT Arabic in cooperation with Egyptian Satellite Channel and Channel One, in an event that uniquely connected the legacy of ancient civilization with the frontiers of modern space exploration.
Part of the program was recorded during a historic live broadcast with a Russian cosmonaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS), with the transmission originating from the foot of the Pyramids of Giza, a visual and symbolic setting that linked humanity’s earliest architectural achievements with its most advanced scientific endeavors.
The special screening, held at the Russian House in Cairo, was attended by senior officials and media figures, reflecting the political and cultural significance of the event as a product of close Russian-Egyptian cooperation.
Among those present were Georgy Borisenko, Russia’s Ambassador to Egypt; Maya Manna, Director of RT Arabic; Nazeih El-Nagary, Assistant to Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning; Ahmed Al-Muslimani, Chairman of the National Media Authority; and Magdy Lashin, Secretary-General of the Authority, in addition to foreign ambassadors, journalists, and leading media personalities.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Borisenko described the program as a major achievement for RT Arabic, highlighting its collaboration with Egypt’s Channel One to produce a unique media project showcasing the work of the International Space Station and Russian-Egyptian cooperation in space exploration.
“For the first time, communication was established with Russian cosmonaut Aleksei Zubritsky, who is currently orbiting Earth, from the very base of the Great Pyramids of Giza,” Borisenko said. He expressed hope that the televised broadcast would attract wide public interest and further strengthen ties between the Russian and Egyptian peoples.
Maya Manna, Director of RT Arabic emphasized the complexity of executing the project. She revealed that more than 100 people were directly involved in organizing the filming process in Giza, while each episode had to be recorded within a strict 20-minute window due to the ISS’s continuous orbit around Earth.
“Despite the logistical challenges, and thanks to the coordinated efforts of our team and our valued partners at Egyptian Channel One, we succeeded in producing a truly one-of-a-kind episode,” Manna said.
Presented as a specialized scientific series, “STARBOUND: The Road to the Stars” offers in-depth content focused on space exploration, life beyond Earth, and scientific research conducted aboard the International Space Station. However, the program goes beyond traditional educational television, embracing a broader vision aimed at igniting curiosity and a passion for knowledge among Arab youth.
At its core, the initiative promotes the idea that shared knowledge is the brightest path toward a better future.
As part of the series, an exceptional episode will air, granting Arab audiences, for the first time, direct live dialogue with cosmonaut Aleksei Zubritsky while he remains aboard the ISS, bringing viewers closer than ever to the realities of space travel.
The launch was preceded by an extensive promotional campaign across Egypt, with RT Arabic advertisements displayed in major streets and public squares, building anticipation and highlighting the program’s promise of a “unique” and unprecedented media experience connecting audiences directly with the secrets of life in space.
“STARBOUND” is set to air on February 3, marking a new milestone in scientific broadcasting in the Arab world.
