The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger confirmed that the investment conference between Egypt and the union, which begins, Saturday, in Cairo; represents a pivotal step in strengthening long-term relations between the two sides, specifically in the investment sectors, given the enormous potential that Egypt enjoys.

Berger said - in a video published by the European Union delegation in Cairo via its official social media outlets- that Egypt is indeed the largest recipient at the African level for European Union investments, but that there are still great areas for growth.

He stressed that Egypt has always been a very important partner of the European Union, noting the level of relations between the two sides, which have risen to the level of a strategic partnership.

Berger reviewed the history of the partnership between Egypt and the Union. During 2004 and then in 2017, priorities for the European-Egyptian partnership were set, while the next step is to raise relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

He explained that this partnership is comprehensive, “because we have identified six different areas in which we would like to deepen our relations, and they include trade, economy, water, energy, transportation, and human development, including education.”

The European Ambassador considered that the conference - which starts tomorrow and lasts for two days - is a first step in the "investment chapter," stressing that the Union believes that Egypt has the potential to attract additional investments from the European Union.
