French star Karim Benzema took part in his first training session with Saudi club Al Hilal on Tuesday evening, just hours after his official transfer to the Riyadh-based side was announced.
Benzema joined Al Hilal from rivals Al Ittihad in one of the most high-profile moves of the season.
Al Hilal are preparing for their upcoming league clash against Al Okhdood on Thursday, as part of Matchday 20 of the Saudi Pro League.
The match comes as Al Hilal look to strengthen their grip on the top spot in the standings.
Benzema appeared highly motivated during the group training session, following his official presentation to the media earlier in the day.
The club confirmed that the former Ballon d’Or winner will wear the number 90 shirt during his time with Al Hilal, a decision that quickly drew widespread reaction from supporters on social media.
Al Hilal completed the deal by purchasing the remaining period of Benzema’s contract with Al Ittihad, after negotiations over a contract renewal between the player and his former club reached a dead end.
The move allows “The Blue Wave” to secure one of the most significant signings of the current campaign.
Saudi football fans are now eagerly anticipating a highly charged showdown between Benzema and his former club Al Ittihad, set to take place just 16 days after his transfer.
The match is expected to be one of the most exciting fixtures of the season.
Al Hilal are scheduled to host Al Ittihad on February 19 at Kingdom Arena. The match carries added significance, with Al Hilal leading the Saudi Pro League table with 47 points, while Al Ittihad sit sixth with 34 points, setting the stage for a clash with major technical and fan interest.
