Portuguese club Benfica have officially announced that their manager José Mourinho will be leaving to take charge of Real Madrid, following an accepted offer from the Spanish giants reportedly worth €15 million.

In an official statement submitted to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission, Benfica confirmed that Real Madrid had formally expressed their intention to appoint Mourinho, activating his release clause.

The club stated that Mourinho agreed to the move, adding that the clause in his contract has been triggered, and thanking him for his contributions during his spell at the club.

The announcement comes shortly after Real Madrid reportedly reached an agreement with Álvaro Arbeloa to terminate his contract as head coach, paving the way for Mourinho’s return to the Santiago Bernabéu, where he previously managed the team.

Benfica also confirmed the appointment of Marco Silva as their new head coach on a two-year contract, with an option to extend until the 2028/2029 season.
