Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko announced on Thursday that he had contracted the COVID-19 virus for the second time, however, he was infected this time by the newly emerged Coronavirus variant, Omicron.

The President announced his infection during a meeting with the head of the Russian Republic of Tuva, Vladislav Khoyalyg, today.

Lukashenko described: “Omicron is an absolutely different variant. Things look like it has turned into ordinary flu.”

Next, he added: “I am saying this as a person who had COVID-19 for the second time, this Omicron variant.”

“It does not cause pneumonia. For example, I continued working while infected and found out about that only after another test,” the Belarusian President reflected.

In the same context, Lukashenko hailed Russia’s methodology in competing against the pandemic, saying: “Russia is doing the right thing. They are more focused on outpatient treatment. People have different symptoms now.”

Later on, he continued: “Of course, there are elderly people and people for whom these viruses are more dangerous. These are people with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and asthma. Of course, they must take care of themselves. But they should not worry too much. Life goes on," the president said.

It is worth mentioning that the Belarusian President contracted the virus for the first time in 2020.
