Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the United States of America (USA) should refrain from escalating tension with China and abandon support for Taiwan separatists.

Today, Saturday, the Chinese minister said that Washington's failure to do so will negatively affect the international situation and global development.

"We hope that the United States will be true to its word, will not start a new phase of the cold war, will not seek confrontation and contradictions, and will abandon support for the idea of the so-called Taiwan independence," the minister added, speaking online at the World Summit of Analysis Centers.

He noted that the future of the whole world depends on whether Beijing and Washington can regulate their bilateral relations.

The Chinese minister went on to say that he believes that in the conditions of globalization,  the two countries must act according to the requirements of the times.

He indicated that protectionist measures must be abandoned because they "contradict the general trend" and harm international relations.

The  Chinese minister noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping "sent a serious warning" to the US high command about the inadmissibility of outside interference in Taiwan's affairs because Beijing considers such actions as an infringement on China's sovereignty.

He stressed that his country is making every effort to achieve a peaceful union with Taiwan.

On November 14, the United States issued a warning to China about Taiwan, hours before a hypothetical summit in the middle of the month between US Presidents Joe Biden and Chinese Xi Jinping.

In a call with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken expressed his "concern over the People's Republic of China's continued military, diplomatic and economic pressure against Taiwan," according to a US State Department statement.
