German's champions announced on Saturday that their departure for Qatar to partake in the FIFA Club World Cup (WC) has been delayed after permission to take off from Berlin on Friday night was denied.

The European champions are set to clash against the African Champions Al Ahly, who defeated Al-Duhail in the opening match, in the semi-final, currently taking place in Qatar.

"After permission to take off from Berlin on Friday night was denied, FC Bayern's departure for the FIFA Club World Cup after the Bundesliga match at Hertha BSC was delayed by more than seven hours. Instead of taking off shortly before midnight as originally planned," Bayern said in a statement.

"The plane with the German record champions' squad on board was not allowed to take off until 7 am in the morning. Because of the unscheduled overnight stay, the crew had to be changed and the plane had to make a stopover in Munich. From there, the plane took off for Doha at 9.15 am," it added.
