Bayern Munich host Italian side Atalanta at Allianz Arena on Wednesday night in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 for the 2025–2026 season.
The German giants are in a commanding position after securing a dominant 6-1 victory in the first leg, putting them on the brink of qualification for the quarter finals.
Bayern enter the match looking to extend their impressive run in Europe and send a strong message to their rivals about their ambitions to compete for the title this season.
Atalanta, meanwhile, will aim to restore some pride and deliver a competitive performance after their heavy defeat in the opening encounter.
The Bavarian side is expected to rely on the excellent form of its attacking stars to maintain momentum and finish the job convincingly.
On the other hand, Atalanta will look to capitalize on any opportunities available in an attempt to reduce the deficit and prove their ability to challenge Europe’s elite.
However, Bayern Munich face an unusual crisis in the goalkeeping position ahead of the clash.
First choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is sidelined with a hamstring injury, while backup Jonas Urbig suffered a concussion during the first leg.
Third choice keeper Sven Ulreich is also unavailable due to a thigh injury, further complicating the situation.
The problems do not end there, as reserve team goalkeeper Leon Klanac is also out injured.
This shortage could force Bayern’s coaching staff to rely on one of their young goalkeepers, either 19-year-old Yannis Bartl or 16-year-old Leonard Prescott, potentially handing one of them a rare opportunity to feature in such a high profile European fixture.
