Bayer Leverkusen have officially announced the appointment of Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand as the club’s new manager, with a contract running until June 30, 2027.
Hjulmand, 53, previously led the Denmark national team between 2020 and 2024, guiding them to the semi-finals of Euro 2021 and securing qualification for the 2022 World Cup after an impressive qualifying campaign.
He also coached Denmark at Euro 2024 in Germany, where his side went unbeaten in the group stage before bowing out in the round of 16 against the hosts.
During his tenure with Denmark, Hjulmand achieved a 60% win rate, the highest in the nation’s history, and earned recognition for his transparent and communicative leadership style.
The Danish coach began his career with Lyngby before achieving historic success at FC Nordsjælland, winning the Danish Superliga title in 2011/12 and leading the club into the UEFA Champions League for the first time. He also had a stint in the Bundesliga with Mainz during the 2014/15 season.
Now, with his appointment at Leverkusen, Hjulmand makes his return to German football.
