A Bavarian Economic Delegation, led by Economic Vice Minister Mr. Tobias Gotthardt, is visiting Egypt from January 28 to January 30, 2025.

The delegation’s mission aimed to explore transformative hydrogen opportunities and foster bilateral cooperation between Bavaria and Northern Africa.

During the visit, Mr. Gotthardt and his delegation engaged in high-level discussions with key Egyptian officials, including the first Assistant to the Prime Minister and Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Green Hydrogen Council, Ms. Randa El Menshawi and the Chairman of Suez Canal Economic Zone, Mr. Waleid Gamal Eldein. These meetings focused on deepening economic ties and advancing renewable energy initiatives. A significant highlight of the visit was the signing of the "Work Plan of the Egyptian-Bavarian Hydrogen Working Group," which aims to facilitate collaborative research, technological exchange, and investment opportunities in the hydrogen sector. The Working Group was initiated in October 2024 during the historic visit of the Bavarian Minister-President, Dr. Markus Söder, to Egypt.

„It is a match! The joint work plan between Bavaria and Egypt is an important step towards advancing hydrogen as a key technology of the future”, said. Mr. Gotthardt. “With Bavaria's expertise in research and technology, we can cooperate and support Egypt in creating modern hydrogen infrastructures. At the same time, Egypt's great potential for green hydrogen opens up new opportunities for Bavaria's economy - be it in imports or in the development of joint projects. Hydrogen connects - as a driver of innovation and an engine for the future of Bavaria and Egypt.”

German Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Jürgen Schulz, stated "This visit is a testament to Germany's strong commitment to strengthening partnerships with Egypt. Hydrogen has the potential not only to revolutionize our energy landscape but also to drive economic growth in both nations. We are excited to kick-start this collaboration and look forward to the mutual benefits it will bring."

The delegation’s activities were mainly organized by the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK), that also acts as the official representation of the Bavarian industry in Egypt. Through this mission, Bavarian businesses aim to share their expertise while gaining insights from Egypt's advancements in hydrogen production.
