FC Barcelona have decided not to activate the option to permanently sign Marcus Rashford following the end of his loan spell, according to reports from Spanish media.
The decision comes shortly after Barcelona completed the signing of English winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal reportedly worth €70 million, which effectively closed the door on further investment in the attacking positions.
According to Marca, Barcelona’s sporting department made the final call to allow Rashford to return to Manchester United once his loan period expires, with the club choosing not to trigger the purchase clause before the deadline.
The report adds that internal hesitation from both head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco contributed to the decision, with the club ultimately prioritising other targets for the summer rebuild.
