FC Barcelona have reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign Alessandro Bastoni from FC Internazionale Milano due to the high financial demands involved in the transfer.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona had identified Bastoni as one of their priority targets this summer as the club looks to strengthen its defensive line ahead of next season.

However, Inter reportedly placed a valuation of around €70 million on the Italian defender, a figure considered beyond Barcelona’s current financial capabilities.

The report added that Bastoni was also reluctant to negotiate with Inter over reducing the transfer fee, which ultimately pushed the 27-year-old down Barcelona’s shortlist.

As a result, the Catalan club is now expected to focus on more affordable defensive options during the upcoming transfer window.

Bastoni joined Inter from Atalanta BC in the summer of 2017 for around €31 million and remains under contract with the Serie A champions until 2028.

The Italian international has continued to play a vital role for Inter, making 40 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing six assists.

Barcelona’s search for a new centre-back continues as the club attempts to balance squad rebuilding with ongoing financial restrictions.
