Barcelona officially announced on Wednesday the contract renewal of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong until 2029. The ceremony took place at the club’s headquarters, attended by President Joan Laporta, several members of the sporting committee, and his family.

The new contract was signed following the morning training session, with Vice President Rafael Yuste, Board Member Joan Soler, Sporting Director Deco, and Sporting Sector Coordinator Bojan Krkić also in attendance.

The “Dutch Warrior” joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 from Ajax Amsterdam, quickly establishing himself as one of Europe’s top midfield talents. In his debut season, he played 42 matches and became a key starter despite frequent changes in the coaching staff.

During the 2024–2025 season, after recovering from injury, de Jong became indispensable in German coach Hansi Flick’s lineup, appearing in 46 matches and scoring two goals.

At 28 years old, de Jong has reached full footballing maturity, having won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and two Spanish Super Cups with Barcelona.

He is now the second most-capped Dutch player in Barcelona’s history, behind Philip Cocu, and is considered a central figure in the club’s new sporting project.

The management views him as a model of commitment, technical quality, and experience, expected to lead the midfield in the coming years.
