Spanish giants FC Barcelona have announced a new legal move against rivals Real Madrid CF and club president Florentino Pérez over comments the Catalan club claims were damaging to its reputation and based on inaccurate information.

The action follows earlier remarks by Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste, who revealed that the club was considering legal measures in response to Pérez's statements regarding the José Negreira case, a controversy that has generated significant debate within Spanish football.

In an official statement, Barcelona confirmed that it has filed a mandatory conciliation claim, a legal procedure required under Spanish law before pursuing a criminal defamation complaint. The potential complaint would be based on Article 205 of the Spanish Criminal Code, which addresses defamation offenses.

According to the club, the legal action stems from comments made by Pérez during a press conference on May 12, as well as additional remarks in a subsequent media interview. Barcelona argues that some of the statements harmed the club's image and reputation.

The club stated that the purpose of the filing is to seek a retraction of what it describes as false allegations made knowingly by the Real Madrid president. Barcelona maintains that the comments constitute direct defamation and have caused reputational damage.

Barcelona also warned that it is prepared to pursue further legal measures if its demands are not adequately addressed during the current stage of proceedings. The club emphasized that filing a criminal complaint remains an option should no resolution be reached through the conciliation process.

The latest development adds another chapter to the long-standing rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid, extending the competition beyond the pitch and into the legal arena.
