Barcelona will look to extend their impressive run of form when they host Atletico Madrid at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Camp Nou, in an all-Spanish showdown in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the 2025–2026 season.

The encounter marks the fifth meeting between the two sides since last December, and the second within just a few days.

Barcelona recently secured a 2-1 victory over Atletico in La Liga in Madrid, in a match that sparked significant controversy, adding a layer of intensity and a revenge-driven narrative to this European clash.

Under the guidance of head coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona are enjoying one of their best spells this season, having won eight of their last nine matches across all competitions.

Their attacking prowess has been particularly notable, highlighted by a dominant 8-3 aggregate victory over Newcastle United in the Round of 16.

Since Flick took charge, Barcelona have transformed into a formidable attacking force, leading the competition in goals scored.

The presence of key players such as Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal has been instrumental in their offensive success.

Despite their strong form, questions remain over Barcelona’s ability to go all the way in the tournament.

The club has reached the semi-finals only three times in their last nine appearances at this stage, making this tie a significant test of their European ambitions.

On the other side, Atletico Madrid, led by Diego Simeone, enter the match under mounting pressure following a dip in form.

The team has suffered three consecutive defeats, marking their worst run since late 2021.

Atletico will be aiming to salvage their season through knockout competitions, especially after securing a place in the Copa del Rey final.

Although they previously dominated Barcelona in the semi-finals of the same competition, the road ahead appears challenging for Los Rojiblancos, particularly given their inconsistency and lack of silverware since winning the La Liga title in the 2020–2021 season.
