FC Barcelona were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League quarter finals despite securing a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Atletico Madrid advanced to the semifinals with a 3-2 aggregate win, having benefited from their first leg result.

Barcelona made a strong start, taking the lead in the 4th minute through Lamine Yamal. Ferran Torres doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, giving the visitors early control of the match.

However, Atletico responded in the 31st minute when Ademola Lookman pulled one back. The goal proved decisive in the context of the two-leg tie, sending the home side through to the next round.

The match saw further drama when Barcelona defender Eric Garcia was sent off in the 80th minute by French referee Clement Turpin, complicating Barcelona’s task late in the game.

Barcelona also had a third goal disallowed in the 56th minute, with Ferran Torres denied after a VAR review for offside.

Midfielder Fermin Lopez was forced off in the first half following a heavy challenge, raising concerns among fans.

The result marked a negative record for Barcelona, as they became the first Spanish team to concede goals in 15 consecutive Champions League matches.

Meanwhile, Atletico manager Diego Simeone continued his strong European run, guiding his team to the semifinals after a tense and dramatic encounter.
