Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, has confirmed that the club is nearing an agreement to extend the contract of head coach Hansi Flick until 2028, in recognition of his strong performances since taking charge.
Speaking to RAC1, Laporta revealed that Flick has agreed to activate an extension clause for an additional season, with his current deal set to run until 2027, making his continued stay at the club increasingly certain.
Flick was recently seen celebrating the club’s presidential election results alongside Laporta following the latter’s victory over rival candidate Victor Font, highlighting the strong relationship between the two key figures at the Catalan club.
The German coach had previously delayed any decision regarding his future until after the elections, stating that his continuation depended on Laporta’s re-election.
Since taking charge ahead of the 2024-2025 season, Flick has overseen 104 matches across all competitions, leading Barcelona to major domestic success, including the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup trophies, underlining his significant impact on the team’s stability and achievements.
Barcelona currently sit top of the La Liga standings with 70 points, holding a four-point lead over rivals Real Madrid in second place.
