Morocco agreed to establish diplomatic ties with Israel, Thursday, as the negotiations on this deal started two years ago but intensified in the last few months, according to Axios.

It is believed that US President Donald Trump senior adviser Jared Kushner and special envoy Avi Berkowitz negotiated directly with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

Israeli government encouraged the efforts of the White House in the last three years to reach an agreement ; however, the talks in recent months included the US and Morocco only.

The White House informed the Israeli government in recent weeks that achieving a "breakthrough" and reaching an agreement with Morocco has become possible.

Just as the normalization agreement is considered a huge deal for Israel and a massive achievement or Trump, US’s recognition of Western Sahara as part of Morocco is also considered a "big shift" in US foreign policy, and a major diplomatic achievement for Morocco.

US became the only Western country to recognize the country's sovereignty over Western Sahara, while President-elect Biden is awaited to state his position concerning this matter, is he going to reverse Trump's decision after taking office in January or not.

Axios claimed that Biden cannot make such move, noting that it would cause the Morocco-Israeli normalization process to collapse.

Morocco is the fourth Arab country to tie relations with Israel in the last four months as part of the Trump administration's "Abraham Accords" initiative.

Trump announced, Thursday, that the King Mohamed VI had agreed to normalize relations with Israel in a peace deal brokered by the United States, making the North African nation the fourth Arab country in few months to do so.

Under the agreement, Morocco will establish full diplomatic relations and resume official contacts with Israel, including the immediate reopening of liaison offices in Tel Aviv and Rabat and the eventual opening of embassies. U.S. officials said there would be joint overflight rights for airlines.
