Austria claimed a 1-0 victory over Tunisia in an international friendly played Monday evening at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, as both teams continued their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute when Marcel Sabitzer scored the only goal of the match, securing a valuable win for the hosts ahead of the global tournament.
Despite the result, Tunisia delivered an impressive performance and created several dangerous opportunities throughout the game. The Eagles of Carthage struck the woodwork three times and produced multiple chances that could have changed the outcome, particularly during a dominant first-half display.
Austria were forced to play with 10 men from the 36th minute after midfielder Konrad Laimer received a red card. However, Ralf Rangnick’s side managed to hold on and preserve their lead until the final whistle.
The friendly served as an important test for Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi, who is aiming to fine-tune his squad before the World Cup. Tunisia will compete in Group F alongside Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands, opening their campaign against Sweden on June 15.
The match also provided valuable preparation for Austria as the European side continues its build-up toward the tournament and assesses its squad ahead of the competition.
