On Sunday, the competitions of the Round for the 2024 Australia Open kicked off. The importance of the Australia Open tournament lies in being the first tennis grand slam championship of the year.

The first day of the competition witnessed the beginning of the title defence campaign by the title holder Novak Djokovic who won the longest grand slam contest in his career.

In addition, the Italian icon Jannik Sinner, who became the highest-ranked Italian Tennis player, and the world's No.5 seed Andrey Rublev successfully advanced to Round 2.

Marin Cilic lost, and former semi-finalist Matteo Berrettini withdrew before his first-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas because of a right foot injury. So, Stefanos qualified for the next round.

On Monday, Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur passed Round 1 of the competition. However, the returning Naomi Osaka fell in straight sets to Caroline Garcia.

Felix Auger-Aliassime survived a comeback attempt from Dominic Thiem in a match that lasted almost five hours.

Five-time finalist Andy Murray was eliminated from the first round of the Australian Open after being defeated by the 30th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. Therefore, the player teased retirement after a disappointing grand slam exit.
