Yesterday, the Australian government announced an amendment to the text of the country's national anthem, to express its appreciation to the country's indigenous people.

The Guardian newspaper reported that Conservative Prime Minister Scott Morrison made a surprise announcement, on the eve of Population Head, saying: The change will help in adopting a "Spirit of unity" after a year of difficult challenges.

According to the British newspaper, the government will remove the phrase that indicates that the country is "Young and free."

It also indicated that the deletion of this phrase comes in light of fears that the current formulation of the national anthem ignores the history of the indigenous people who have lived in the continent and the Torres Strait islands tens of thousands of years ago.

The Prime Minister considered that "These changes were made for the benefit of all Australians," stressing that his country is a relatively modern country, but "Its history is very old."

In January, the phrase "Because we are one people and we are free" will be added instead of the phrase "Because we are young and free."

It is noteworthy that the Australian anthem was changed in 1984, with the phrase "Develop my beautiful Australia", instead of "God save the Queen."
