Austin: Sweden's Request to Join NATO 'Historic Decision'

Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defense said on Wednesday that Sweden's request to join NATO is a "historic decision".

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that US will continue its military activities in the Baltic Sea, explaining that NATO is the guarantor of the security of one billion people in Europe and North America.

During a speech, Biden added, "The US will work with its NATO allies to quickly approve the bids by Finland and Sweden to join the alliance."

"We will remain vigilant with Sweden and Finland to respond to any threat due to their NATO's membership,"  explaining that Finland and Sweden's accession to NATO will enhance the alliance's defense strategy.
