Atlético Madrid have finalized the signing of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Italian side Atalanta, bringing the forward to La Liga in the closing hours of the January transfer window, according to multiple reports.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that all details of the deal have been fully agreed, with Atlético reaching a final agreement with both the player and Atalanta.

Lookman is set to join the Spanish club for a reported fee of €35 million, with an additional €5 million in performance-related add-ons, and will sign a long-term contract following the club’s decision late Saturday night.

Atlético Madrid are now arranging the player’s travel and medical examination ahead of the official announcement, which is expected before the winter transfer window closes on Monday, February 2.

The move represents a significant attacking reinforcement for Diego Simeone’s side, as Lookman has been one of Atalanta’s standout performers in recent seasons, impressing with his pace, versatility, and goal-scoring ability in Serie A and European competitions.

The transfer comes shortly after Lookman’s international success with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Eagles secured the bronze medal.

Nigeria defeated Egypt on penalties in the third-place playoff match held at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, a result that earned the team a prize of $3.2 million.

Atlético’s acquisition of Lookman underlines the club’s ambition to strengthen its squad during the January window as it continues to compete on multiple fronts in the second half of the season.
