Atlético de Madrid have officially announced a major change in their ownership structure. The club confirmed on Monday that Apollo Sports Capital (ASC), the sports division of global investment group Apollo, has become the new majority shareholder of the rojiblanco institution.

The agreement was reached in coordination with the club’s existing ownership group, including Miguel Ángel Gil, Enrique Cerezo, Quantum Pacific Group, and Ares Management.

According to the official statement, the arrival of Apollo Sports Capital is intended to strengthen Atlético’s financial foundation and reinforce the club’s long-term competitiveness at the highest level of European football.

Despite the shift in shareholder control, the club’s leadership structure will remain unchanged:

• Miguel Ángel Gil will continue as CEO

• Enrique Cerezo will remain as Club President

Both will also retain their stakes in the club, ensuring continuity in the sporting and strategic project that elevated Atlético among Europe’s elite over the past two decades.

A significant portion of the new investment will be directed toward strategic infrastructure, especially the upcoming City of Sport — a major multi-purpose sports and entertainment complex planned next to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium. The project is designed to create a world-class destination for both fans and the local community.

With Apollo’s global experience in sports and entertainment, the partnership marks the beginning of what Atlético describes as an “ambitious and sustainable future” — one aimed at strengthening the club’s brand and global presence while enhancing its competitive edge on the pitch.
