Athletic Bilbao have officially announced the appointment of German coach Edin Terzić as the new manager of the first team on a two-year contract, succeeding Ernesto Valverde, who will leave at the end of the current season.
In a statement, the Spanish club confirmed that Terzić has signed a deal running until June 2028, marking a new managerial era at the Basque side.
Terzić, 43, arrives with a strong coaching résumé, having previously managed Borussia Dortmund in two separate spells. During his time in Germany, he won the DFB-Pokal in 2021 and narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga title in 2023. He also guided Dortmund to the UEFA Champions League final in 2024.
Before becoming a head coach, Terzić built experience in coaching and technical roles, including work within Dortmund’s academy system, as well as assistant coaching roles at West Ham United and Beşiktaş.
Athletic Bilbao confirmed that Terzić will be officially presented after the conclusion of the current season, which still features several crucial matches as the club prepares for a transitional phase under new leadership.
