At Least 34 Killed in Armed Attacks in Burkina Faso

At least 34 people were killed in Burkina Faso in two armed attacks in northern and northwestern the country.

The French press agency quoted Papo-Pierre Basinga, the governor of the Boucle de Mohon region, as saying that on the night of Sunday-Monday, the residents of the rural region of Buraso (northwest) were subjected to a cowardly and barbaric attack by armed men.

He noted that the provisional toll of this terrorist attack is 22 dead and many more, in addition to material losses.

A security source told AFP earlier on Monday that the attack resulted in the death of about 15 men, women, and children, according to a provisional toll, while a local source stated that the death toll from the attack was about 20.

According to one of the residents, the gunmen first roamed around five o'clock in the evening (local and international time) in the village. firing shots in the air. Later in the night, they returned to fire indiscriminately at the residents.

Another security source mentioned that another deadly attack took place on Saturday in Namisegina, in Yatenga province in northern the country.

The source explained that the outcome of this attack reached 12 dead, including 3 volunteers for the defense of the homeland," and they are civilians fighting alongside the army. This attack sparked waves of displacement since Sunday.
