At least ten people have been killed and several others injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device inside a restaurant in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, according to local police reports on Saturday.

The attack took place in the town of Konduga, a location that has suffered multiple assaults in the past due to its proximity to areas controlled by extremist groups. Police confirmed the incident but have not yet released further details about the attacker or the full scale of the damage.

The region has long been plagued by violence from jihadist insurgencies, particularly Boko Haram and its offshoot Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), both of which have carried out numerous attacks targeting civilians, security forces, and soft targets like markets, places of worship, and eateries.

Borno State, where Konduga is located, has been at the epicentre of Nigeria’s 15-year conflict with Islamist militants. Since Boko Haram launched its insurgency in 2009, tens of thousands have been killed and over two million people displaced across the country’s northeast.

Suicide bombings were once a frequent tactic used by Boko Haram, including the use of women and children as bombers. While such attacks have declined in recent years, the latest incident has raised fears of a resurgence in extremist violence in the region.

Authorities are investigating the bombing and have increased security measures in surrounding areas. Emergency services were deployed to the scene, and those injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
