More than a dozen people, including firefighters, were injured in Portugal today, Wednesday, while fighting a massive forest fire in the coastal town of Cascais, west of the capital, Lisbon.

The mayor of the town said that the firefighting teams were able to control the fire early in the day, noting that 90 people were evacuated from three villages and 800 cattle were transferred yesterday evening because of the fire, according to the British “Sky News” network.

Civil Protection Commander Eliseo Oliveira said the fire no longer posed a danger to residents but urged citizens, especially motorists, to avoid the area.

The firefighting planes joined 600 firefighters and 189 fire engines in attempts to put out the fire that broke out yesterday in the "Sintra-Cascais" natural park.
