On Saturday, 22 February and under the patronage of Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, and Major General Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan, raised down the curtain of the twenty-fifth Edition of Aswan International Symposium for Sculpture.
The event was organized by the Cultural Development Fund Sector in cooperation with Aswan governorate.
The ceremony were attended by Dr. Ahmed Awwad, head of the General organization of Culture Palaces, artist Hisham Atwa, vice-president of the organization and a large number of journalists, media men and plastic art fans.
The closing ceremony started with inspecting the works of the participating artists at the work site, followed by visiting the Open Museum of the Symposium.
Dr. Abdel Dayem said that Aswan Symposium started as a dream for Adam Hanin - the Egyptian international artist- and the Ministry of Culture, represented in the Cultural Development Fund sector, turned it into a reality twenty-five years ago.
Abdel Dayem added that this symposium achieved many goals, the most important of which is the affirmation of Egypt's leadership in sculpting; a talent Egypt has pioneered since thousands of years ago.
Also, the symposium emphasizes the revival of the art of sculpting on granite.
The minister added that, during its editions, the symposium was able to create a strong push in the field of sculpting; it presented a new generation of Egyptian sculptors who participated in many international events and were praised by critics of Fine Art.
The event was crowned by establishing the open museum open, which is the first of its kind in the world.
The minister also thanked the Governor of Aswan for his support for the special event.
On his part, Governor of Aswan, welcomed the guests of the symposium in Aswan - The capital of African youth in the brown continent.
The governor expressed his happiness to host the activities of this event, celebrating the silver jubilee, which has become an artistic, cultural and global event, held on the land of Aswan.
The ceremony of this festivity included the distribution of participation certificates and an appreciation medal from Aswan Governorate to the artists participating in the Edition of the Silver Jubilee.
It included host of artists: Ton Kahl from the Netherlands, Ikram Kabbaj from “Morocco” and Ali Nouri from “Iraq”, Prof. Dr. Hassan Kamel, Prof. Shams El-Pinkfy- From Egypt , Prof. Dr. Saeed Badr, artist Hany El Sayed, artist Nathan Doss and artist Hisham Abdullah.
The closing ceremony also included honoring two workers who contributed to the establishment and success of the Symposium, namely- Jamal Al-Din Al-Saeed, Ahmed Murtada, Muhammad Abdul Karim, in addition to honoring Mr. Antoine Riad, the head of the Directors Board of the hotel sponsoring the activities of the event.
The symposium also honored, in its Silver Jubilee, a number of special and distinguished figures that established it throughout the past editions, namely-:Honorary President of the Symposium, the great artist Adam Hanin- the founder of the symposium, the late artist Salah Marai - received by his wife, Rahma Montaser, and the great artist Ansi Abu Saif.
A number of members of the Higher Committee of the symposium were honored; they included Dr. Hamdi Abu Al-Maati, Abdul Majeed Ismail, Assistant Commissaries, Prof. Hani Faisal, and the General Commissaries of the Symposium.
It is worthy of note that the Symposium committee dedicated the Symposium Shield to Governor of Aswan, for his support and care for Aswan Symposium for Sculptures.
Furthermore , the Governor honored the Minister of Culture by dedicating to her the shield of the governorate.
The honoring ceremony was followed by presenting an art show by Aswan Folklore Troupe- affiliated to the General Organization of Culture Palaces.
