Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated from the FA Cup after suffering a 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday evening in their third-round clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Aston Villa secured qualification with a composed and disciplined away performance, capitalizing on Tottenham’s defensive lapses and maintaining focus throughout the encounter.

In contrast, Spurs failed to make the most of home advantage and exited the competition at an early stage of England’s oldest cup tournament.

Emi Buendía opened the scoring for the visitors in the 22nd minute, before Morgan Rogers doubled Villa’s lead just before halftime in the 45th minute, giving the Midlands side a commanding position at the break.

Tottenham attempted a comeback in the second half, with Wilson Odobert pulling one back in the 54th minute, but their efforts were not enough to force an equalizer.

Tottenham were notably without Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus, who missed the match after sustaining a serious injury in the recent Premier League draw against Sunderland.

The injury is expected to sideline Kudus for several key fixtures, including the upcoming league match against Nottingham Forest on March 21, and potentially the FA Cup quarter-finals, had Spurs progressed.

Despite pushing forward in the latter stages, Tottenham struggled to break down Villa’s well-organized defense, as the visitors managed the game effectively to seal a famous away victory.

Aston Villa’s win sends them through to the next round of the FA Cup, while Tottenham are left to reflect on another disappointing domestic cup exit.
