Arsenal decided to part ways with head coach Unai Emery after just 18 months in charge of the Premier league club.

Eintracht came from behind on Thursday to defeat the Gunners 2-1 in the Uefa Europa League group stage.

"Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success," Arsenal director Josh Kroenke said.

The Gunners said in a statement that the decision was taken due to the bad results and performances.

"The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required," Arsenal said in a statement according to their official website.

Kroenke added that the Sweden football star Freddie Ljungberg would take the responsibility of leading the first team as interim head coach.

"We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward," Kroenke noted.

Arsenal director explained the Gunners are now searching for a new head coach.

"The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete," Kroenke concluded.

Emery, who took the charge of the Gunners in March 2019, guided Arsenal to end the last Premier League season in the fifth spot. The Spanish coach also led the Gunners to reach the Uefa Europa League final.
