Yerevan celebrated the 34th anniversary of its independence on September 21, with leaders highlighting the resilience of the Armenian people and reaffirming the country’s path toward peace, stability, and sovereignty.
In his national address, Armenian leaders recalled the historic referendum of September 21, 1991, when citizens overwhelmingly voted for independence, opening a new chapter in the nation’s history. They acknowledged that the path has not been easy, marked by trials and sacrifices, yet emphasized that these challenges forged Armenia’s determination to secure true statehood.
“Today, we are truly independent, realizing that independence and sovereignty can only be strengthened through peace,” the address stated, underscoring that the peace agreement of August 8, 2025, had brought Armenia closer to its long-standing vision of a stable and sovereign state. The message concluded with a tribute to the martyrs and a call for an enduring future of independence and dignity for all citizens.
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan also shared his reflections in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). He noted that at this pivotal moment, Armenia’s people—shaped by hardship and resilience—possess the foundation to fulfill their aspirations of building an independent, sovereign, and prosperous nation. “This vision shapes our foreign policy and drives our efforts to continuously enhance a peaceful environment for our citizens and strengthen partnerships,” Mirzoyan added, extending his congratulations to Armenians worldwide.
