Argentine Senator Norma Durango has submitted a bill to her country's Congress Monday demanding to print the picture of football legend Diego Maradona on a banknote.

The senator asked that the late soccer star Maradona be placed on the 1,000 peso note.

Durango said the banknote, worth about $12.27, will show Maradona's face on one side, and a picture of his hand that rocked England's net in the World Cup on the other side (Hand of God).

The goal, scored by Maradona in goalkeeper Peter Shilton's net, was one of two goals scored by the legend in the 2-1 victory in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final.

"The idea is not just to recognize our most important idol but also to think of the economic question," said Durango.

"We feel that when tourists come here they will want to take a 'Maradona' away with them."

The current 1,000-peso note features the national bird, the Rufous hornero.
