Argentina canceled its scheduled morning training session on Saturday after thunderstorms swept through Miami, disrupting preparations for its Round of 16 clash against Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, the session was called off in line with U.S. safety protocols, which require outdoor activities to be suspended during thunderstorms and periods of lightning to protect players and coaching staff.
Instead of training on the pitch, the squad completed recovery and fitness work in the gym after securing a place in the Round of 16 with a victory over Cape Verde.
Head coach Lionel Scaloni had planned a split training program, with recovery sessions for players who logged heavy minutes in the previous match, while the rest of the squad was scheduled to undergo more intensive tactical and physical drills. However, the adverse weather conditions forced the coaching staff to abandon those plans.
Argentina is expected to hold two training sessions before traveling to Atlanta on Monday evening for its Round of 16 encounter with Egypt.
