Argentina's Ministry of Health said it had detected a suspected case of monkeypox in Buenos Aires, amid growing global concern about rising cases in Europe and elsewhere of the viral infection most common in West and Central Africa.

The ministry added that the patient suspected of being infected with monkeypox is a resident of Buenos Aires province and has symptoms compatible with the disease, and he had recently traveled to Spain; he is in good condition and isolated during the tests.

On Saturday, the World Health Organization announced that there are 92 confirmed and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox in Europe, Canada, the United States and Australia. There are no confirmed cases so far in Latin America.
