The Arab Parliament Speaker Adel bin Abdel Rahman Al-Assoumi urged Ethiopia to seriously engage with a sincere political will in Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) talks, with the aim of reaching a legally binding agreement between all parties.

Moreover, Al-Assoumi affirmed on Arab parliament's full support to Egypt and Sudan in protecting their water security and defending their legal and historic rights in the Nile River waters.

It is worth mentioning that, Egypt’s Minister of Irrigation and water resources said on Monday that the GERD negotiations are ‘almost frozen,’ adding, “there have been international communications, but they do not live up to our ambitions.

Last month, Egypt, Sudan welcomed the presidential statement issued today by the Security Council urging Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan to resume negotiations on the GERD.

This comes within the framework of the negotiating track led by the President of the African Union, with a view to drafting a binding legal agreement on the filling and operating of the Renaissance Dam.
