Adel AlAsoomi, the president of Arab Parliament met with Joseph Ntakirutimana, the speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly to develop their relations.
AlAsoomi said during the meeting that the African countries represent the first strategic depth of the Arab countries.
"The Arab Parliament spares no effort to strengthen Arab-African relations at all levels," he added.
AlAsoomi noted that the Arab Parliament desires to develop its partnerships with the African Parliament and to establish strong relations with the East African Legislative Assembly and other entities that serve the institutionalisation of Arab-African relations and the interests of the Arab and African peoples.
On the other hand, Ntakirutimana explained that the African parliament is also very keen to build institutional relations between the East African Legislative Assembly and the Arab Parliament, which represents the Arab people.
"Arab States are the main partner of African countries," he noted.
Arab States deal with African States impartially, in a framework of real partnership and a desire for mutual benefit far from imposing trusteeship or external interference in the internal affairs of States, according to Ntakirutimana.
The two sides agreed to hold coordination meetings in the upcoming period, to exchange views on the details of joint cooperation programmes between the two organizations and implementation mechanisms.
